My 10 Favourite Films So Far

I absolutely love my films, and I am borderline obsessed with the way they are created- from prosthetics to CGI and what makes an 'Oscar winning performance'.
These are the best films I have watched so far for both in the way they are made and most importantly- how they touch the heart using deeper meanings. I will not go into detail in case you ever want to watch any of these (if you have not already!) I always find most amazing films (not all) are usually based on a book.
So, in no particular order (I am sounding a bit like Ant and Dec here...)
Frankenstein (2025)
Frankenstein was always one of my favourite books I studied all those years ago at school in English Literature. As a child, I related to the monster and his view of man kind. There are some powerful quotes in this 2025 film adaptation that left me in awe.
'"The hunter did not hate the wolf. The wolf did not hate the sheep. But violence felt inevitable between them. Perhaps, I thought, this was the way of the world. It would hunt and kill you just for being who you are."
"My place was never in this world. I sought and longed for something I could not quite name. But in you, I found it."
And my favourite:
"Did you ever ask yourself, of all the parts that make that man, which one holds his soul?"

Oppenheimer
I am not going to pretend I understood this entire film- and I do regret watching it in a hard seat in the cinema due to the fact it was a three hour film. However, it was fascinating learning about the making of the first atomic bomb, and the battles Oppenheimer himself faced in it's creation. A true cinematic masterpiece.
'They won't fear it until they understand it. And they won't understand it until they've used it. Theory will take you only so far.'

Pride and Prejudice
I can see so many peoples eyes rolling here- but yes, I am a huge fan of the Pride and Prejudice 2005 film featuring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. Again, based on a classic novel by Jane Austen- it portrays the hardships of family life in the 1800's and the pressure to marry, as well as giving that beautiful theme of 'rich man falls for poor woman'- loving her for her heart rather than he status, and overcoming the pride that comes with it. I prefer this film over the series with Colin Firth due to the acting- I feel it is more like the book, but this is just a personal opinion!
"In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you"

Bridget Jones (The Edge of Reason) 2004
Another film I deeply related to and still do at all stages of my life is this film. The single quote:
"It feels like you're waiting to find someone in the VIP room who's- who's so fantastic, just the way she is, that you don't need to fix her."
had me in tears the first time I watched it. When I watch it back, other things hit deep for me, like the pressure to fit in small underwear and be perfectly perfect and skinny due to social media influences!

The Lord of the Rings: The Return Of The King
Quite a turn around from Bridget Jones, you would think! However, I think in less ways than you think. The heroic scene where Eowyn takes off her helmet and says:
"I am no man."
-made Lord Of The Rings (which was predominantly a male lead film), so much better than it already was for me! I always had a crush on Legolas growing up, playing his character religiously on my PlayStation 1! However, now I look back- I am a Boromir fan through and through!

Sinners (2025)
After watching this masterpiece in the cinema, me and my husband came out completely flabbergasted at how amazing it was, the filming was incredible, as was the acting and WOW- the soundtrack! When we walked out, a younger girl to my right said 'That was the worst film I have ever watched.' And my mouth opened wide, as did my husbands. We couldn't believe it wasn't for everyone- however, if you like supernatural films, appreciate the blues, and love a gothic theme- this one is for you. And I take my hat off to the actor Michael B. Jordan for playing two roles (him and his twin)- I didn't even realise and had to Google if he has a twin.. face palm. I also borderline fell in love with Hailee Steinfield... even more so when she was all kinds of evil (incredible actress).
"You're all gonna' die tonight."

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire
How could I not put this in here? This film is by far my favourites out of the Harry Potter films- it showed the first proper death of a fellow student and it in my opinion, is when things started to get a bit darker. The story line was fantastic, and the premises of the Triwizard Tournament was brilliant!
"Don't you turn your back on me, Harry Potter! I want you to look at me when I kill you!"

Fury (2014)
For some reason, this film has always stuck with me. I think this is mainly because of the way the film was shot, showing most of it from inside the tank. There were rarely any changes of scenes. I think this was a brilliant way of showing us as the audience the life inside the tank for the gentleman back in World War two in Nazi Germany- letting us live it with them.
"If a man loves the world, the love of the Father ain't in him. For all in the eyes, the pride of life, is not of the Father. But of the world."

Top Gun Maverick (2022)
I have watched this film too many times- because it is simply brilliant. Not only is it a feel-good film with a hint of comedy, but it is 'classic' action mixed with the most brilliant special effects of 2022. The flying scenes left you at the edge of your seat, leaving you thinking how amazing it is that such a simple story line can bring the cinema to life. The music also fit the film creatively, especially the beach scene and piano scene with Miles Teller.
"Talk to me, Goose."

Point Break (1991)
As someone who used to do a lot of surfing and water sports, this film always inspired me. However, even though I don't surf any more, I still will repeatedly watch this film whenever it is on. This was Patrick Swayze in all his glory, and Keanu Reeves gives us that action that we all long for (including his signature run...) There are so many brilliant quotes in this film- and it is an original for so many reasons- it simply cannot be recreated. This is skydiving surfers robbing banks- who wouldn't want to watch that?
"I know you want me like acid in your mouth..."

11 (EXTRA NUMBER!) Chasing Mavericks
I know I was only supposed to write ten films down, but after writing about Point Break I had to recommend Chasing Mavericks. Whether you surf or don't- this film is for you. This follows the true story of a young man from a troubled background, looking up to one of his neighbours as a hero. He wants to follow in his foot steps and tackle one of the biggest waves in America (a 60ft wave) in Northern California- it follows his journey from start to finish, tugging at your heart strings along the way.
"Fear is healthy. Panic is deadly,"

I know for a fact I have probably forgotten quite a few films and they will come back to me after writing this! However, I can always add them on a future blog! I will say these are my top 10 as they are the first to pop into my head.
With love,
